What is an Asian Handicap line?

You may have seen the term “Asian Handicap line” or “AH line” before, but what does it mean? In short, an Asian Handicap line is a type of betting line used in soccer matches. It’s designed to level the playing field between two teams of unequal strength, making the match more evenly matched and therefore more interesting to bet on.

How an Asian Handicap Line Works

In a traditional soccer bet, the betting lines are set so that there is a favorite and an underdog. The favorite is the team that is expected to win, while the underdog is the team that is expected to lose. The betting lines are set such that the payout for betting on the favorite is lower than the payout for betting on the underdog.

With an Asian Handicap line, things work a bit differently. The handicap is designed to level the playing field between the two teams, making it more difficult to predict who will win. As a result, payouts for Asian Handicap bets are usually higher than traditional bets.

Two Types of Asian Handicaps:

  1. Whole-number handicaps are expressed as a single number, such as +1 or -2. This means that the team with the positive handicap is given a one-goal advantage, while the team with the negative handicap starts the match with a two-goal deficit.
  2. Half-number handicaps are expressed as half-goals, such as +0.5 or -1.5. This means that the team with the positive handicap starts with a half-goal advantage, while the team with the negative handicap starts with a one-and-a-half goal deficit.

Asian Handicaps can be either fixed or variable. Fixed handicaps are set before the match begins and do not change during the course of play. Variable handicaps, on the other hand, can change during the course of play depending on what happens in the match. Variable handicaps are usually only used in matches between very unequal teams.

Summing Up

If you’re looking for an interesting way to bet on soccer matches, then you should definitely try betting on an Asian Handicap line. With this type of bet, you can often get higher payouts than you would from traditional bets because it’s more difficult to predict who will win when two teams of unequal strength are playing each other. There are two types of Asian Handicaps—whole-number and half-number—and they can either be fixed or variable depending on how they’re set up. So if you’re looking for an exciting way to gamble on soccer matches, be sure to give Asian Handicap lines a try!
