How Do Soccer Betting Lines Work

If you’re new to sports betting, you may be wondering how soccer betting lines work. Unlike other sports, there are only three possible outcomes when betting on soccer: a win by the home team, a win by the away team, or a draw. As a result, there are only three corresponding betting lines.

  • The first line is the home team’s line, which represents the odds of the home team winning.
  • The second line is the away team’s line, which represents the odds of the away team winning.
  • The third line is the draw line, which represents the odds of the game ending in a draw.

To bet on a soccer game, you simply need to choose which outcome you think is most likely to occur and then place your bet accordingly. With only three possible outcomes, soccer betting lines are relatively simple to understand and easy to use. However, it’s important to remember that your potential winnings depend on both the odds of the outcome occurring and the amount of money you’ve wagered.

How to Read Soccer Betting Lines

The first step in understanding is to know the different types of bets that you can place.

Moneyline Bet

The most common type of bet is the moneyline bet, which is a bet on which team will win the game outright. The moneyline will have a plus sign (+) if the team is an underdog, and a minus sign (-) if the team is a favorite. The number next to the plus or minus sign indicates how much you would need to bet in order to win $100. For example, if you see a moneyline of +250, that means you would need to bet $250 to win $100.

Point Spread

This is a bet on how many goals a team will score during the game. The point spread will be indicated by a number with a plus or minus sign next to it. The minus sign (-) indicates the favorite, while the plus sign (+) indicates the underdog. Let’s say that the point spread for a game is -1.5 and you bet on the favorite. This means that the favorite must win by two or more goals for you to win your bet. If they only win by one goal, then your bet is a push (a tie) and your money is refunded back to you.

Is it better to bet the moneyline or the spread?

Both have their own unique advantages and choosing between them can be a difficult task.

Moneyline is a bet on whom you think will win the game, while spreads are bets on how many points one team will win or lose by. Moneyline bets often provide greater returns than spreads as there is no margin of victory to add in. However, they also require a greater degree of skill and knowledge to predict correctly since the gambler must choose which team will win instead of relying on  points.

Spreads offer more freedom due to an increased margin of victory, however, it comes with lower rewards compared to moneylines. Ultimately, both forms of betting require significant research into each sport in order to make informed decisions but depending on your risk tolerance level and financial goals, either could serve you well for profitable sports betting.
